"Songfest, an anthology of vocal works by Robert Newell, William Penn Susan Hurley,
Elizabeth Scheidel-Austin and Alan Schmitz, plus an oddball
piece for reader and synthesizer by Mary Jeanne van Appledorn, is the unsatisfactory result of five studio sessions recording
six works, as well as of soloists, far from their mikes, displaying
poor diction and not very good singing. Too bad, since some of the
lyricism, particularly by Ms. Scheidel-Austin and Mr. Schmitz, is
touching..."
